Every child deserves to be the best they can be
High quality texts are chosen from EYFS to year 6, to ensure that children are immersed in a vocabulary rich environment, which also feeds into our writing lessons. Each half term, we focus on different genres (fiction, non-fiction and poetry), so that children are exposed to different styles of writing.
The English national curriculum lays out the core knowledge and skills that all children should follow. We have ensured that we have subdivided the strands, to show a clear progression in learning, as outlined below:
| Spoken language | Reading | Writing |
|---|---|---|
|
Listening Speaking Drama |
Retrieval Inference and prediction Sequencing/summarising Comparison Vocabulary Metacognition Grammar and punctuation |
Planning Composition including editing Transcription Grammar and punctuation Handwriting |
Books are selected from a set criteria and are mapped out in our reading vines:
Most importantly, we want children to have a love of English and become life-long readers!
